When Migraine Affects Family Life and Parenting
We recently came across a very helpful article at Migraine.com that goes into a topic that may not get enough attention but that migraine suffers know all too well—how the pain that parents go through can affect their children and family life.
Parenting with Migraines
From the article: “It’s impossible to deny that a parent having migraine does have an impact on children, though parents perceive a higher burden on their children than the kids themselves do, according to research presented at the American Headache Society conference in June.”
The article details seven steps you can take to lessen negative impacts in the home, from educating your kids about migraine to showing kids how to cope with pain and allowing them to help with age-appropriate tasks.
It’s a great collection of suggestions especially if you’re a parent of younger children who is suffering from frequent headaches.
Remember that unless you’re suffering from other ailments or infections, frequent headaches are not necessarily “normal.” Call or write us at The Headache Center to get an evaluation of your headache condition.
